At first glance, this snack may seem as if it originates from Japan because musubi is rice ball in Japanese and this dish looks similar to an onigiri. But as a matter of fact, Spam musubi hails from the islands of Guam and Hawaii. They are frequently placed near the front of Hawaiian convenience stores or beside check-out counters, so customers can pick up a convenient snack on the go.
Musubis can be prepared beforehand which makes them the ideal snack for people with extremely hectic schedules. Each component of the rice ball can also be found in every store and switched with ingredients you already have access to at home. The third reason why this is perfect for busy bees is it only requires rudimentary kitchen skills to achieve. But in spite of their simplicity, Spam musubis are both tasty and satiating.
*Note: The rice in the pictures has a yellow tinge to it for we cook our rice with grated turmeric at home.
